This is a beautiful Ocean Jasper pendant, nicely finished on both sides. It comes with the gold-over-pewter bail and the black 'leatherette' necklace. It has a wide variety of swirling colors - green, yellow, and delicate beige. It also has a few attractive, rough, small quartz druzy sections & vugs, that add a lot of character to this stone. You can see the semi-translucent sections in the backlit photo. This stone is very smoothly finished, it took an excellent polish. Looks much better in person than in my photographs.
Ocean Jasper is a variety of Jasper which contains variably-colored orbs or spherical inclusions or zones. This material is quite attractive when polished and is used as an ornamental stone or gemstone. The name "Ocean Jasper" is used for the variety of Jasper found along the intertidal shores of northeast Madagascar.
Jasper is a form of chalcedony quartz, and is opaque rather than clear or translucent like regular quartz or agate. It contains an abundance of impurities which give its interesting appearance.
There are over 3,000 types of agates and jaspers, and this is a nice representative of one of them!
(As always, if you don't like the choice of bail or necklace, just contact me and we can make changes.)
